My heart weeps like the rain upon the City…. – Paul Verlaine
What a sad day here in Paris. The grey skies and light rain have a really mean influence on my mood. But I think being overworked and exhausted contributes more than a little to my feeling down today. I need a break. Luckily I have tomorrow off and I’m hoping to take full advantage of it!
Under the clouds, even the hospital chapel had lost its radiance and aura. La Salpêtrière was built in the second half of 17th century under Louis XIV. A century later, it was the biggest hospital in the world. During the 19th century, under the impulsion of Dr Jean Martin Charcot and his students (which included Sigmund Freud!), La Salpêtrière became famous for its neurology and psychiatry research. Students from all over Europe would come to attend Charcot’s famous lectures. His work helped understand the pathophysiology of diseases like multiple sclerosis (he was actually the first one to use this term).
After my morning round, I realized I had a couple hours to kill before teaching my class in the afternoon. I decided it was a sign that I could upgrade my usual saturday lunch from Starbucks to Le Paradis du Fruit. This is actually a chain of restaurants that focuses on fruits and veggies, hence the name “The fruit Paradise”. They have vegetarian and non vegetarian options but everything is fresh. I scanned the menu for a while to make sure I was making a healthy choice. This was pretty easy since the healthiest items on the menu are highlighted (and calories detailed). I went for the green veggies “Marmite” with curried Tofu and coconut milk/ zucchini sauce (250 Kcal). For dessert I had the 0% fat yogurt with fresh fruit (this totally blew my mind). And a Café Noisette (an expresso with a small amount of milk added). Despite its name it has no hazelnut added to it.
Everything was so delicious! I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a fresh, healthy yet very satisfying meal! I think I’m going to replicate the Yogurt and fruit dessert at home. Guiltless pleasure.
Once at home, I took a quick nap. And now just prepared dinner. Turkey chili with one surprise ingredient. I’ll post the recipe tomorrow morning so stay tuned!

I eat yogurt every morning, but it sure doesn’t look as good as that does! yum! I hope you have a great day off, rest up and do something fun!
I’m jealous. I want that food. It looks fantastic. I will take a rainy Paris over upstate NY January weather any day.
Wonderful!
Ah the winter blues…I know what you mean. A Mexican soup called chicken pozole always helps warm and cheer me up. Check out my recipe, it’s fresh, healthy, and delicious

P.S.
I’m really interested in visiting Paris (not until a while though cuz I’m a broke college student) but does it rain often there?
Wow, if only we had healthy restaurant options like this in the States. Looks like a wonderful lunch!
Oh my gosh look at all that fresh fruit! It looks beautiful and delicious!
Somehow even the dishes look French to me. lol… sigh… it’s been WAY to many years since I’ve been to France.
I seriously love anything with tofu, curry and coconut milk. It looks alot like paradise to me.
JE VOUDRAIS BIEN UNE CUPCAKE!
