Nothing better than a good book to make your time in a sometimes smelly, often packed subway, pass smoothly… I seriously developped a passion for reading just from having to ride the subway 1 hour every day. Since I’m fluent in both french and english, I hate to read books from american writers translated into french. Doesn’t make any sense to me. It would be like eating pre-chewed food…
So I had to find ways to purchase american books here in Paris. Being french I tend to prefer little local shops over giant multinational firms like Amazon! I was ecstatic when I found “The red wheelbarrow“. This place is one of the cutest store I’ve ever been too. It’s tiny, packed with books from floor to ceiling. The people who work there are really knowledgable and give great advice. And if you can’t find what you need, they’ll order it for you and let you know by email when your book arrives!
So many small shops close every year! I feel it is our responsability to support them, for by doing so we support the dream and vision of their owners. And this is priceless.
By shopping local not only do you get better and more personnal service, but you also help your own community prosper. Keeping dollars at home helps create more jobs locally and keep your economy strong.
